Among Us Virtual Escape Room

You are a crewmate. There is an imposter among us. See if you can find out who they are before they take out the entire crew. Register for this program ahead of time to be sent the Google Form directly to your email. This virtual escape room will be available on our website and posted to our social media weekly during the month of February. Be sure to tag us and show how you did.

Virtual Gaming: Among Us

Saturday, 01/02, 02/13, 03/13, 04/10, 2-3pm: Pontiac teens are welcome to sign up to play among us with their friends and the Teen Services Librarian. Register in advance because only 9 people can join the game with our librarian. Be sure to include an e-mail when you register, so we have somewhere to send the room code. The code will be sent out 10 minutes prior to starting the game.

Virtual Gaming: Jackbox

Saturday, 1/16, 2/27, 3/27, 2-3pm: Pontiac teens are welcome to sign up to play a variety of games from one of the Jackbox Party Packs with their friends and the Teen Services Librarian. Register in advance because all games have a limited number of spaces. Be sure to include an e-mail when you register, so we have somewhere to send the room code. The code will be sent out 10 minutes prior to starting the game. Jackbox can be played from your phone at jackbox.tv and we will have a stream you will need to watch of the game in order to play properly.

Tween/Teen Winter Reading Challenge

February 1st through April 30th, For Grades 6-12, Beanstack: Stay warm and get into reading with our winter reading program. Earn up to three prizes for every hour of reading you do. Read for three hours to earn a raffle ticket towards our drawing prizes, a Roku, and an Amazon Fire Stick! Earn extra raffle tickets by participating in optional activities. You may count what you are currently reading for school.

Register online at Pontiac.beanstack.org and start logging in on February 1st until the end of the day on April 30th. The drawing for our grand prize will occur during the first full week of May. All prizes will be available for pickup through the Library’s curbside service.

Black History Month Social Media Challenge

During the month of February, all school aged children may submit a poem or the first page of a book by a black author to our email pont@tln.lib.mi.us to get a participation prize. Title the email Social Media Challenge and include your name. We will share what we receive to our social media.

Teen Financial Education Series

Tuesdays, 04/6, 04/13, 04/20, 04/27, 5:30-6:30pm, Zoom, Facebook: The Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union have partnered with the Pontiac Public Library to present a series of financial education presentations geared for teenagers and young adults. Register through our website in order to join us for these presentations on a Zoom video call that will be broadcast live to our Facebook page.

04/6: Checking Account Management: Get comfortable with how debit cards work, avoiding fees, virtual services, and check writing.

04/13: Credit Cards 101: Learn about what rates and APR can cost you, how to read your monthly statement, and the impact of making minimum payments.

04/20: Building and Boosting Credit: Establish and maintain positive credit. Know how to compare loans and what impacts your credit report and credit score.

04/27: Living on Your Own: Do you know about renting vs leasing? Are you ready to pay for utilities and insurance and have you budgeted for an emergency fund? Overview of what you need to consider before proceeding on your own.

Virtual National Poetry Slam Contest

Saturday, April 24th, 2-4pm: Our National Poetry Slam Contest is back! This year it will be held virtually so make sure you have a good connection. You must sign up in advance in order to participate and will be required to read your poetry aloud in a Zoom video chat. All poems must be appropriate for all ages. The contest is generously sponsored through a partnership with Oakland University and there will be prizes given out for both first and second place winners as chosen by our panel of judges.
